La Pieza y su Proceso

En el arte de la xilografía (grabado en madera), la obra se presenta mostrando tanto la placa de madera original como la estampa final obtenida de ella. La estampa, con su acabado pulcro y suave, es lo que solemos ver en una galería, una imagen que parece haber surgido sin esfuerzo. Sin embargo, justo al lado descansa el bloque de madera tallado: el objeto que soportó el meticuloso proceso del artista de cortar, labrar y dar forma.

Esta exhibición pone de manifiesto el trabajo oculto inherente a la creación de grabados. La placa, que a menudo pasa desapercibida, se convierte en un testimonio de las incontables decisiones, las horas de talla y las intervenciones que el artista tuvo que visualizar. Es una representación tangible del esfuerzo "tras bambalinas" que moldea para siempre la imagen final. Esta revelación intencionada del proceso, al mostrar tanto la fuente como el resultado, nos invita a reflexionar sobre el viaje, a menudo invisible, que va desde la idea hasta la creación.

The piece and its process

A xylography (woodcut) is presented with both the xylography plaque and a final print made from it. The smooth, finished print is what we typically see in a gallery, a seemingly effortless image. Yet, right beside it lies the carved wooden block – the very object that endured the artist's meticulous process of cutting, gouging, and shaping.

This display makes visible the hidden labor of printmaking. The plaque, often overlooked, becomes a testament to the numerous decisions, the hours of carving, and the precise inversions the artist had to envision. It's a raw, textured counterpoint to the refined print, a tangible representation of the "behind-the-scenes" effort that forever shapes the final image. This intentional revelation of the process, by showing both the source and the outcome, compels us to reflect on the often-invisible journey from concept to creation.
