“LA MEMORIA DEL TIEMPO”, Dueto exhibition, San Carlos Academy 2024
Amanda Woolrich & Adriana Comi
DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK
‘La Memoria del Tiempo’ reflects the essence of memory, ever-changing and fragmented, subject to individual perspectives and points of view that transform over time. The hanging strips, like memories, intertwine, forming new versions of themselves, creating ephemeral images for the visitor who passes by.
PROCESS:
The piece was made in three stages determined by the materials used. First, the cedar wood structure was constructed using a box, tenon, and wedge assembly system that allows for its assembly and disassembly. A lattice of threads was placed over it, allowing the paper strips to be suspended.
Secondly, each artist chose a printmaking technique to represent a moving column of smoke. To achieve this, four plates measuring 2.00 meters x 80 cm were engraved: two in high relief on foamed PVC and two in gravure with a Dremel on acrylic. Each artist created an image independently and another based on the imagery of the other artist. Twenty-six prints were printed on full sheets of 9g Japanese Tengucho paper and TP4 Kozo. Finally, the prints were cut into 10, 8, and 5 cm strips and prepared to be hung from the structure's lattice of threads. The strips form a cube whose textures change according to the surrounding movement.
